Catalena Ranch

A years-long relationship with a single ranch: first the rebrand when it shifted from cattle to super-exotics, then its first-ever website on Webflow, and most recently a ground-up rebuild that freed the site from Webflow onto a fast, CMS-driven Astro stack with a live, filterable animal inventory.

My work with Catalena Ranch spans several years and three distinct chapters. It began when the ranch made a major transition — from a traditional cattle operation into a data-driven super-exotic genetics ranch. There was no existing brand or website to build on, so I started with the identity: a rebrand that captured the ranch's new dedication to quality genetics, data-driven innovation, and a blend of research and tradition.

With the new brand in place, I built the ranch its first-ever website on Webflow. It established Catalena Ranch's presence online and gave the operation a home to showcase its animals and its story — the foundation everything since has grown from.

Years later, I returned to rebuild that site from the ground up and free it from Webflow. The new version runs on a modern, decoupled stack: Astro renders a fast, statically-generated front end, Sanity powers all editable content, and Cloudflare Pages handles hosting and continuous deployment on every push to main. I designed the content model around three interconnected collections — species, individual animals, and photography — so the ranch can manage a living inventory that surfaces on the site as an interactive, filterable list of every animal on the property.

Beyond the core build, I handled the details that make a site real: a photography pipeline in Sanity with proper photographer credits, a separate preview and production dataset so content can be staged safely, a Cloudflare Worker that powers the contact form, region-specific legal pages, and a full SEO and robots audit. Animal data flows in weekly from the ranch's source-of-truth database into Sanity, keeping the public site accurate without manual re-entry.
